I’ve been enjoying joining in with the regular Monday morning confessional hosted by Kirsty at My Home Truths. I don’t often stick to the prompts, but this week the question was: What is guaranteed to make you cry?
Well folks, the short answer is anything and everything. Sad, angry or happy, I will have tears coursing down my face.
I shed happy tears recently without even meaning to, when I had a cuddle of my brother’s first baby for the very first time. It was such a precious moment my emotions literally overflowed! You can’t see it in the photo, but believe me, they were there (if you look really closely you might just be able to see that were my eyes were full of tears!).
Mind you, whenever I have a good belly laugh these days I also find tears pouring down my cheeks, so much that I end up needing a tissue or two to mop up afterwards! What’s THAT about?! Another one of the joys of getting older?!
When I get super-duper angry (which fortunately doesn’t happen very often), again, my emotions overflow via my tear ducts. It makes me even angrier though, because it’s hard to appear calm, rational and logical as you try to put across your argument when you are CRYING. Grrrrrrrrrr!
The past year or two have seen me spill a lot of these too unfortunately: stumbling across my mother’s funeral notice on the internet nearly 5 years after the event (there’s a story there, but I’ll save it for another time); being made redundant; losing our beloved pet cat; when I had to close the magazine I’d been running for 15 years; not to mention the heartaches that can be part and parcel of raising two teenagers.
I also cry for other people – when a friend lost her Dad recently; watching a World Vision ad on TV; even reading a book where somebody dies. If somebody else is weeping, the chances are that I will join in (I s’pose it’s just like the Good Book says, we are to weep with those who weep).
So there you have it – the confessions of a real Sookie La-la!
Now it’s your turn …
